Malatang is one of the easiest ways for vegetarians to eat out with a group: everyone picks their own ingredients, so you build a bowl from vegetables, tofu and noodles while your friends add meat to theirs.
Building a vegetarian malatang bowl
- Choose from the vegetables, mushrooms, tofu and noodles in our fridges.
- Tofu adds protein and soaks up the flavour of the broth.
- Soup bases that can be made vegan: Mushroom Soup, Tomato Soup, Mala Stir Fry and Mala Ban. Mala Ban contains peanut.
- Not vegetarian: the Classic Malatang and Sichuan Hot and Sour broths are made from chicken bones, and Chicken Bone Broth also contains milk.
